Going Deeper- Session #2- "Masterpiece"

This past Sunday night, we asked one simple question in response to this knowledge that we are fearfully and wonderfully made by the Creator of all things: "What does it mean to be God's Masterpiece?" It's a simple question that is jam-packed with life altering significance. Just think about how this understanding would affect your relationships at school, the way you live each day, and how you understand your purpose in life...
So how do we live a life of being God's Masterpiece when we feel like our lives are one big mess? Well Ephesians 2 showed us that we were all dead in our sins because we have followed the ways of the world for so long. We saw how when we boil everything down, much of lives are centered around the idea of comparison and the need for acceptance. With this as the driving force in our lives, when we look in the mirror we don't see a masterpiece but rather, we see a life that doesn't measure up to everyone else around- we see our faults. It is when we allow this circle of comparison to drive our lives, that we lose sight of what we were originally created to be.
So what does it mean to live a life as God's Masterpiece? It simply means that everytime we look into the mirror, we begin to see more and more of Jesus. This will only come when we begin to ask God to chisel away those thoughts of comparison. And as He begins to chisel away those aspects of our lives that cloud our vision, we will begin to see our lives reflect Jesus. The greatest part about this...so will everyone else in our lives! We are God's workmanship...created as Masterpieces for His glory and His honor.

During this next week, use these questions to help you begin to apply these thoughts to your life:

1. When you look in the mirror, what is your first reaction? Do you look for faults? Why do you think that is?

2. What is the underlying issue behind your worries? (Example- If you wish you were taller...why do you wish you were taller? Do you worry about not fitting in? Scared of what others will think of you?)

3. Read Ephesians 2:10...what is the purpose of us being God's workmanship-the reason why we are fearfully and wonderfully made?

4. What does God need to chisel out of your life so that you, and those you come in contact with, begin to see Jesus in your life?
5.Is it worth it to you? Do you desire to leave the circle of comparison where fear, worry, pride, guilt, etc... drive the way you live life? Why or why not?

6.If you answered "yes" to that last question, what steps will you take this week to begin to allow God to chisel away all the dead weight that is holding you down?
