Mile Marker: Marks of Maturity #3: Christianity...Event or Lifestyle?

I recently took a part-time job coaching baseball at Mehacton High School.  In my many conversaitons with the team and coaching staff, we have highlighted the fact that each player is more than simply a baseball player.  Each player represents Methacton high school and their students.   This means that whether we are at a game, a practice or anything else...each player needs to be mindful of that fact that even though they aren't in school, they represent something much bigger than themselves or the game of baseball...
Have you ever had someone day that to you?  That you represent something or someone else even when you aren't in that particular environment or with that particular person...?
It is easy to recognize who you are when you are in a specific environment.  For example, a basketball player knows that he or she is a basketball player during practice, at a game, or while in a gym.  It is on his or her mind, it is all they think about, and they are able to focus on that part of who they are...but what happens when they leave the gym?  When the game is over?  Do they cease to be a basektball player?
Waht about followers of Jesus?  It is easy to focus on Jesus and living for Him when we are at Jacob's Well Sunday nights, or at our small group, on a missions trip or hanging out with other Christians...but do you tend to leave your faith at the door?  Or does it follow you home...into school, you friendships, the lunch table, your use of time, etc...?
God has huge plans for teens who love Him, and when we look at our faith as an event- something we do once or twice a week and not as a lifestyle, we miss out!

Use these questions and the Bible passage below to help you go deeper this week with this final Mile Marker topic!

1. What should the difference be between being a follower of Jesus and every other characteristic that defines you (brother, sister, basketball player, artist, etc...)?

2. Read 2 Cor. 5:11-20
- verse 11...knowing who Jesus, Christians should desire to persuade others to know Him...does this verse reflect your life, why or why not?
- verse 13...when are you most excited?  does following Jesus excite you?
- think about excitement...how do the things that excite us pour over into our thoughts, words, and actions?
- verse 20...what is an "ambassador?"

3. How have you seen your following of Jesus affect your:
- Use of time
- Friendships
- Idea of what it means to be a student
- Your relationship with your parents
- Media choices
- Understanding your purpose for life
- Your ability to forigve and live in peace with others
- Your joy in life...?
