Life Interrupted: Week 1

What do you want to be when you grow up?

We all have been asked this question before. Whether it was your crazy aunt and uncle trying to make conversation out of an awkward family gather, or a class project that had you presenting your answer to this question. We all have at least thought about it. That is what we are supposed to do...right? It is responsible to plan for the future...we should want to do what we want to do...

Although your favorite aunt will never tell you this, but this questions is smoothered with YOU. Now again, its not bad to have plans, but for alot of us, once we hit adolescents, we are told to pursue what you want to become and don't let anything or anyone get in your way...If you can imagine it, you can achieve it...You can achieve anything you put your mind to...

What happens in this silly little quest, is that oftentimes, everything and everyone becomes either a support to help you gain your goals or a speed bump for you to run over on your way to "success."

Oftentimes, our relationships with Jesus become one of this side dishes. We would never say that, but for alot of us, we are cool with Jesus riding "shoty" in the journey of life with us. But we must be honest, He must stay there and only speak when spoken to and lead and when it is most efficient for us.

Sunday night, we looked at God's calling of Samuel. He was a good little boy who knew alot about God who was training to be a priest in the temple. Every day he ran through his routine of priest in training.

However one night, God called him out of the darkness of night...I've got big plans for you! But I also have a message for you to deliver to Eli.

Interrupted.

Samuel's plans. Samuel's journey. Samuel's adolescent years.

Interrupted.

How would he react to God's glorious interruption?

Use these questions this week, to help you dive deeper into this week's topic of life interruption.

1. How do you deal with interruptions in life?

- Do you look at them as a negative?

- To they cause you to grow?

- Rely on God more?

- Run from God?

2. Re-read 1 Samuel chapter 3.

- God "gloriously interrupts" Samuel's young life by calling him to do something hard. As a teen, have you ever faced a "interruption" in life? How did you respond?

3. Are you tempted to treat Jesus as more of a side kick than a leader in your life? (As a side kick, when interruptions come, we can take control back from Him)

4. Read Luke 9:57-60

- This man wants to follow Jesus, but needs to take care of some family business first.

- How does Jesus respond?

5. When God "glouriously interrupts" our lives as teens- He calls us to do something, He calls us to give something up, to give Him control, etc..., how do you respond?

- Yes, God interrupt my life and change me!

- I want to follow you God, but can it be on my terms?

- I want to follow you God, but can we wait until I'm older?

- I'm not that interested in being interrupted by God...I like my "freedom" and abilty to call my own shots.

6. What would it take being a teen, to answer "Speak Lord, for your servant is listening" when He gloriously interrupts your life?

Join us at Matt & Amanda's this Thursday night at 7pm as we talk about our teen years and the glorious interrupts that God gives us during these years!
