"Jesus is the most famous person in all of human history. More songs have been sung to him, artwork created of him, and books written about him than anyone who has ever lived. In fact, Jesus looms so large over human history that we actually measure time by him; our calendar is divided into the years before and after his birth, noted as B.C. and A.D., meaning in the year of our Lord..."So Jesus is pretty well known...we get that. But to Jesus, what matters is not what we he believe he lived, but what we are transformed by the message he spoke and what He came to do.
So Sunday night, we finished up our Gospel Journey Maui series by looking at what the message of Jesus was while He walked this earth. I created a short list of some characteristics and claims of Jesus. I encourage you to read through this list, and the passages of scripture listed, and spend time reflecting on the messae of Jesus you live by.
Jesus:
1. Is Fully God- Genesis 1:27, John 5:18, John 8:58-59, John 20:31, & Col. 2:9
2. Is Fully Man- Phil. 2:5-8, Hebrews 2:17
3. Is Fully of Mercy & Love- John 3:16, John 6, Romans 5:8, 1 Timothy 2:4, & 2 Peter 3:9
4. Is The Way To God- John 11:25-26, John 14:6
5. Is Powerful (Miracles)- John 20:30-31 (Apprx. 1/2 of the Gospel of Mark's verses explain Jesus' miracles)
6. Came From God- John 6:41-42
7. Is Our Substitution- Hebrews 10:10, 2 Cor. 5:21
8. Is Perfect/Sinless- Hebrews 4:14-16 (40% of "born again" teenagers believe that Jesus sinned while on earth)
9. Was Tempted- Hebrews 4:15, Luke 4:1-13
10. Died & Was Raised from Dead (Is Alive Today!)- 1 Cor. 15
Think about this: What happens if we decide not to beleive in just one of these truths/characteristics/messages of Jesus? You see, it's not enough to just believe Jesus was a person...it is His message and life (death) we are to stake our hope and life on!
Plan to join us Thursday at 7pm at Matt & Amanda's as we discuss further these characteristics of Jesus and the message he taught, lived, and died for, so that we might be put right with God once again through a faith in Jesus!
