Going Deeper- "WE"- Session 1

Last night we kicked off the new school year by taking a look at the idea of community. We discovered, by way of Genesis 2, that we all have something in common deep down within each of us- a desire to fit in, to be connected, and to be a part of something bigger than ourselves- a desire for authentic community.
In order to help you take last night's message a bit deeper and to see how you can apply it to your own life situation, we want to encourage you to re-read Genesis 1:26-27 & 2:4-18. We also want to encourage you to read through Exodus 17:8-16. Here you will find a story about Moses and the people he was leading- the Israelites. As they came into battle, Moses recognized that he would need more than himself if they were to win this battle- he needed others- he needed community. In the same way, we are in a battle everyday as we make our way through our teenage years- the decisions we make, the things we do- we need people supporting us. God never intended for us to go through our Christian lives by ourselves- we need the support and love of others- community.
As you read the Exodus passage, think about these questions as they relate to your own life:
1. Are you more of an introvert or an extrovert?
2. What do you think the difference is between friendships and authentic community?
3. Do you think it is possible to be around a group of people without ever having genuine "community"? If so, how is that possible?
4. What are some of the positives and negatives of being in community?
5. Why would God desire for us to be in community with others? Can we learn anything about Him from our relationships with others?
6. Where in your life do you have authentic community? If you don't, why do you think that is?

Plan to join us at Matt & Amanda's house this Thursday evening from 7:00pm-8:30pm as we discuss these things is further detail, pray together, support one another and simply hangout. We hope to see you then!
